-San Fernando Valley-

Burbank

is billed as the "Media Capital of the World".  Many media and entertainment companies are headquartered or have significant production facilities in Burbank, including Warner Bros. Entertainment, Warner Music Group, NBC Universal, The Walt Disney Company, Viacom, and PBS.  At one time it was referred to as "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" on Laugh-In and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.  The city was named after David Burbank, a New Hampshire-born dentist and entrepreneur.

Sherman Oaks

In contrast to much of the Valley, the area is relatively urbanized, with commercial skyscrapers along Ventura Boulevard as well as scattered throughout.  In addition, residential densities are highly mixed, with apartment and condominium neighborhoods alongside single-story residential ones. The area is a hub for regional transportation, business, and shopping

Studio City

Surrounded by many big studio lots such as Universal Studios and CBS Radford, Studio City is home to many artists in the entertainment industry.   It is bounded roughly by Ethel Avenue to the west, Highway 101 to the north and east, and Mulholland Drive and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south

Toluca Lake

Toluca Lake started out as farmland but today is home to affluent residents.  Past and present residents include Bob Hope, W.C. Fields, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Gene Autry, Doris Day, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, Andy Griffith, Rick Dees, Goldie Hawn, James Garner, Ron Howard, and Amelia Earhart

Granada Hills

Many of the best deals in the San Fernando Valley are coming up in Granada Hills.  It tends to be a very popular area for new families looking for starter homes in the $300k range.  In 1916, the San Fernando Valley's first oil well was drilled in what is now Granada Hills. The oil well was located at the northern tip of Zelzah Avenue. Granada Hills was founded in 1927 (as "Granada;" the "Hills" was added 15 years later) and started out as a dairy farm and orchard known as the Sunshine Ranch. Among the crops harvested here as the nation prepared for the Roaring '20s were apricots, oranges, walnuts and beans. Vestiges of former citrus groves can still be seen as small groups of orange, lemon or grapefruit trees in some residential yards.
